Mave recommends films. To do that it remembers what you have told it about your taste. This page says exactly what that means, in plain words. Last updated 1 September 2026.

What Mave stores

  • Your films and what you made of them. Titles you named, films you saved, marked watched, or turned down, the rating you gave and any note you wrote.
  • The description of your taste. Written from your ratings, and rewritten by you whenever you like.
  • What we offered you. Each set of picks, the reasons written for them, and what you typed about the evening.
  • Your email address — only if you leave one. It is how you keep your films when you change device.
  • Which screens you opened, with the country, the site you arrived from, and your browser’s description of itself.

What Mave never stores

Your IP address. It is turned into a fingerprint on arrival and only the fingerprint is kept, so repeat visits can be counted without the address being written down. The same is done to your email address where it only needs counting.

Passwords. There are none. You sign in with a code sent to your inbox, so there is nothing to steal.

Payment details. Mave does not take payments.

Cookies

Two set by Mave itself, and some set by Amplitude, which counts how the product is used. None of them is used for advertising, and nothing on this site is following you to any other site.

  • One says who you are. A random number, nothing more — no name, no email. It is what lets your films still be there when you come back. Thirty days while you are anonymous; a year once you have left an email.
  • One says where to open. It records only that this browser has somewhere better to go than the front page.
  • Amplitude’s. They mark this browser so that a visit today and a visit next week can be recognised as the same person coming back. That is the one number this whole experiment turns on.

There is no advertising tracker on this site, and nothing here follows you anywhere else. If that changes, this page changes with it, first.

Who else can see it

  • Anthropic writes the recommendations. It is sent the description of your taste, the films you have decided about with your ratings and notes, and what you typed about tonight. It is not sent your email address or anything that identifies you by name.
  • Supabase holds the database.
  • Vercel runs the site.
  • Resend delivers your sign-in email, and needs your address to do it.
  • Amplitude counts how the product is used, so we can see where people give up on it. It is sent the fact that something happened — a screen opened, a set of picks shown, a film rated — against the same random number the cookie holds. Not your email, not your name, not the notes you write, and not the films you chose: whether you wrote a note is counted, what you wrote is not.
  • TMDB provides the posters. Your browser fetches those images directly from them, so they see your IP address the way any site you visit would. Mave does not send them anything about you.

Nothing is sold, and nothing is shared with advertisers.

Recording of the screen

Amplitude records what happens on the screen while you use Mave — where you tap, what you scroll past, where you stop. It is watched to find out where the product is confusing, and for nothing else.

Everything you type is hidden from it. Every field on every screen — what kind of evening you are having, the note you write about a film, your email address — is masked before the recording leaves your browser, so it cannot be read back. So are the two places that show you your own history: the description of your taste, and your list of watched films with their ratings.

What remains is the shape of the thing: the buttons, the headings, the reasons written on the cards, and what you did with them.

How long it is kept

For as long as you have an account, and until you ask for it to go. Signing out does not delete anything — it only makes this browser forget you, so your films are waiting the next time you sign in.

Without an email address, your history belongs to the browser tab you made it in. Open a fresh tab and Mave meets you as somebody new: an account is what makes it remember you.

What you can do

On the profile screen you can rewrite the description of your taste in your own words, and remove any film from your list — which really removes it, from the recommendations too.

To have everything deleted, or to be sent a copy of it, write to us at the address below and say so. No reason required, and it is done by hand rather than by a form, so allow a few days.

Children

Mave is not meant for anyone under 13, and it is not built to collect anything from them.

If this page changes

The date at the top changes with it. Anything that widens what is collected or who can see it will be said on the screen, not only here.
